Seventh Chords
The seventh chord is formed by using the first, third, fifth and seventh scale degrees. You have probably already seen them even as a notice guitarist written as D7 or G7. There are also major seventh, minor sevent, half-diminished seventh and diminished seventh chords. The half-diminished seventh chord is also known as minor seventh with a flatted fifth degree.
If you are an aspiring jazz guitarist you’ll need to know these although they are popular in many styles of music. They are written for the chords with roots of G and C. These are moveable shapes and root position so the root note is the lowest note in each chord. Need to learn the names of the notes on the 5th and 6th strings? If so, try this.
